A study of multi-hop cellular networks

چکیده
The number of cellular communication subscribers continues to grow, attesting to the great success of this technology. However, cellular networks have inherent limitations on cell capacity and coverage and shortcomings such as the dead spot and the hot spot problems. Multi-hop cellular networks (MCNs) help enhance the cell capacity and coverage, while, at the same time, alleviating the dead spot and hot spot problems, increasing the utilization of radio resource, and reducing the power consumption of mobile terminals. In the past decade, more than a dozen of MCN architectures were proposed. In this paper, we study various types of MCN proposals. We identify and discuss the design decision factors and use these factors to classify most existing MCN proposals. Future research directions, including studies of capacity and energy consumption, and approaches addressing design issues such as cell size, routing, channel assignment, load balancing for MCNs are discussed. A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks
Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
متن کاملA multi-hop PSO based localization algorithm for wireless sensor networks
A sensor network consists of a large number of sensor nodes that are distributed in a large geographic environment to collect data. Localization is one of the key issues in wireless sensor network researches because it is important to determine the location of an event. On the other side, finding the location of a wireless sensor node by the Global Positioning System (GPS) is not appropriate du...
متن کاملDetermining Cluster-Heads in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks Using Multi-Objective Evolutionary based Algorithm
A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET), a set of wirelessly connected sensor nodes, is a dynamic system that executes hop-by-hop routing independently with no external help of any infrastructure. Proper selection of cluster heads can increase the life time of the Ad-hoc network by decreasing the energy consumption. Although different methods have been successfully proposed by researchers to tackle...
متن کاملMulti-user Diversity in Multi-hop Cellular Networks
In this paper we study multi-user diversity in the downlink of single-hop and multi-hop cellular networks. We also propose a base-station coordinated relaying method in a multi-hop cellular network to overcome the fundamental limitations on the average achieved throughput per-user. In the proposed method, multi-user diversity is induced in a 2-hop forwarding scheme and then exploited to improve...
متن کاملThe Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
